The San Luis Obispo County Film Commission is your first point of contact for permit information. We can quickly direct you to the permitting agencies for your selected locations. San Luis Obispo County includes seven cities, several unincorporated towns and a number of State Parks and Beaches, each jurisdiction having its own permit, and requirements for filming.
Most jurisdictions comply with the California State Film Commission’s permit requiring a minimum of 3 days advanced notification for filming and generally require a certificate of insurance, covering a minimum of $1 million and must additionally insure the municipality, a written locations breakdown, and a signature of an authorized representative on the permit form. Application fees for permits range from $0 to $500.
