Morro Bay

 morro bay, ca

The sentinel of Morro Bay, CA is Morro Rock,a volcanic peak over 21 million years old. This 576-foot-high dome-shaped formation now serves as a preserve for  the spectacular peregrine falcons that nest on top, sometimes swooping over your Morro Bay hotels heading out to hunt.  As a bird sanctuary, the city of Morro Bay California and the Morro Bay National Estuary provide a nourishing habitat to more than 250 species. This abundance is celebrated every year on the Winter Bird Festival weekend.

Morro Bay CA is unique in having one of California's largest and most productive commercial fishing fleets, which provides area restaurants and fish markets with the freshest of seafood. Harbor side Morro Bay offers visitors a large variety of unique shops plus Morro Bay hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and restaurants - most with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and the Morro Bay estuary.

For many years, this small town was focused completely on the commercial fishing fleet that harbored in the sheltered waters of the Morro Bay estuary. However, its sunny, mild Mediterranean climate with year round comfort and the bounty of its natural beauty and the activities this allows has proved to be an irresistible magnet for visitors from all over California and beyond. Once you enjoy a California beach vacation, staying in a Morro Bay hotel or lodging, you begin planning your next stay right away.

While here, visit the Morro Bay State Park Museum of Natural History which includes engaging new exhibits for hands-on exploration. Enjoy an abundance of outdoor activities including bicycling, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing, fishing, whale watching excursions, bay cruises, and 18-holes at the Morro Bay Golf Course.

Morro Bay, CA is host to many festivals and fairs throughout the year. The annual Winter Bird Festival held over the Martin Luther King weekend creates the perfect bird watching vacation that attracts birders and friends from all over the country.

Each summer, a juried art fair is held in a city park over the Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day weekends.
