Day One
When our friends come to town to stay with us for a weekend, we start out on Friday evening by taking them to dinner at Tanner Jack’s on the Mesa in rural Arroyo Grande. The restaurant has a Happy Hour from 3:00 to 6:00 every day with all wine selections at $5.00 a glass and the best Tri Tip on the Central Coast. After dinner we head into San Luis Obispo for a stroll through downtown to check out all the shops and, perhaps, stop for a drink at Mother’s Tavern on Higuera Street, right in the heart of town. Then we usually make an early night of it as we have a full day planned for Saturday.
Day Two
We always like to get an early start on Saturday so we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and sights of the Central Coast. We head up North, going first to the Spyglass Inn Restaurant in Shell Beach for a delicious breakfast out on their patio, enjoying the gorgeous ocean view. Then we continue up the 101 North into Paso Robles to do some wine tasting at some of the many fine Wineries available. Taking the Hwy 46 West, we stop off at the Peachy Canyon Winery first, then on to the JanKris Winery for some samples of their fine wines (and purchase a few of our favorite bottles of wine and champagne). We also make a side trip into the town of Paso Robles for a quick lunch at the Crooked Kilt Pub & Grill on Pine St. Next, we take the Hwy 41 East to take a check out the new Firestone Winery on Airport Rd, and then stop off at the beautiful Bianchi Winery on Branch Rd. Next we take the drive to Morro Bay on the 46 West. In Morro Bay, we take a stroll along the Embarcadero and check out all the interesting shops. And, finally for dinner, we go to Rose’s Steak & Fish House for a delicious fish dinner overlooking the Bay and the Morro Rock.
Day Three
Sunday morning, we usually stay home and have a leisurely breakfast out on our deck overlooking the Arroyo Grande creek. By early afternoon, our guests do some shopping at the Five Cities Shopping Mall in Pismo Beach while my husband, Ron, and I get ready to put on our Interactive Murder Mystery dinner theatre that we regularly perform at the Spyglass Inn Restaurant on Sunday afternoons. By 4:30, our guests have arrived at the restaurant to partake in our dinner show and we are ready to receive them in the Spyglass Banquet Room. The actors have a wonderful time putting on a show for a very receptive audience (which consists of lots of locals and quite a few out-of-towners), while there is murder and mayhem going on all around them. Once the show and dinner are done, our weekend guests give us hugs and kisses and head back home and so do we.
